Skyrim is one of the best open-world RPG games to date. Fighting a wide variety of monsters might become boring for some players. However, Skyrim wives are here to help! We will be reviewing some of the advantages of Skyrim marriage, and counting down to the best wife in Skyrim!
How to Get Married in Skyrim
Arguably, the whole marriage thing is a bit harder in Skyrim than it is in real life. To get married in Skyrim you first have to collect the Amulet of Mara. You can purchase it for 200 from Maramal. Equipping the Amulet signals that you’re available and interested in marriage. You can marry over 60 different NPCs across the realm, each with their own set of requirements.
You and your partner will go into business together once you’ve married, operating a trade shop from wherever you live. Don’t worry; your partner will take care of everything. All you have to do is request your 100 gold every 24 hours in-game.
After collecting the Amulet of Mara, and speaking with Maramal in Riften, you have to choose the NPC you want to marry. You need to start a conversation with the NPC of your liking. However, winning a maiden’s heart is not as easy of a task as just talking. Before proposing to your future partner you need to finish a quest for them first. After earning their trust, just like in real life, you can propose to your love interest. You hold a very sweet wedding ceremony and choose a property which you will keep with your future wife.
Why should you even get married in Skyrim?
The choice of your future residency is very important. You can choose to be a gold-digger and move into your spouse’s house/estate or she can move into your property. By choosing to live in your wife’s residency you can get many bonuses, such as free rooms at inns if she owns a hotel or similar. However, if you have the Hearthfire DLC, you can build your own house to your liking.
You can ask your spouse to prepare a Home Cooked Meal for you once a day, which will increase your Health, Stamina, and Magicka regeneration by 25% for 10 minutes. Delicious food aside, what you want in a marriage is love, right? Well, Lover’s Comfort bonus is the thing for you! By sleeping in the same house as your wife, you get this daily bonus which grants you an increased skill learning speed by 15% for eight hours.
Best Wife in Skyrim: top 15 Skyrim Wives ranked
#15 Njada Stonearm
Njada isn’t the most pleasant person on the planet. Njada appears to hold a grudge against you as soon as you join the faction. However, if you succeed in completing the faction’s major questline and becoming the Harbinger, Njada will eventually warm up to you.
Njada reaches level 25, making her an excellent follower for the early part of the game. She’d be better off staying at home after that, tending to a store or cooking food. If you like using your shield, she is the perfect wife! She allows you to practice your Block skill with her. To marry Njada in Skyrim, make sure you finish the Companion questline’s Glory of the Dead.
Ria is one of the friendliest girls you can marry when it comes to the Dragonborn, even though she is also a newcomer to the faction. Ria is an Imperial woman with a strong personality. She is a follower who will serve the player well during the first 25 levels of the game, wielding a steel blade from Eorlund’s famed Skyforge.
Be diligent in finishing the full Companions quest, especially Glory of the Dead, if you want to marry Ria. You can ask to marry Ria after being promoted to the role of Harbinger. Aside from being a follower, she can serve a variety of roles, like joining the Blades, as well as being a Steward.
#13 Jordis the Sword-Maiden
This fine Sword-Maiden can become your wife by completing five different missions in a place called Solitude and a special quest from Jarl Elisif. However, Jordis has commitment issues, and she needs you to buy the Proudspire Manor as well, which is a whopping 25000 gold.
Only once all these bizarre requests have been satisfied can you ask her hand in marriage. Jordis plans to open a sweet little shop once she marries you.
Jordis is also a Nord warrior who is especially renowned for her balanced skillset. She can be an archer or a close-range warrior, which makes her adaptable based on your playstyle.
Lydia is one of those strong independent women which don’t mess around. She is very fierce and strong, as she prefers to fight at a very close range. If you complete the Dragon Rising quest and purchase Breezehome, Lydia can become your lovely wife.
Lydia will begin her modest little shop after the wedding and give you 100 gold every day. She will also relocate to the Breezehome and provide a home-cooked supper for you daily. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a wonderful deal.
Rayya is one of the few Redguards you can marry. To marry her, you need to become a Thane in Falkreath. You can become one by completing the quest “Thane of Falkreath”. After you complete the quest, she is appointed as your wife. Rayya has an extremely diverse skill set, as she is specialized in One-Handed combat and can wear Heavy Armor.
Due to the relatively smaller size of the Falkreth, it is one of the simpler Thane titles to obtain. Rayya is an excellent follower and spouse, particularly for those who require a tank-like partner.
#10 Ghorza Gra-Bagol
If you are looking for the beauty within a woman, rather than outside, Ghorza is the woman for you. She may not be an Orsimer beauty, but she packs a punch with her immense strength. You can find her working as a blacksmith in the city of Markath. However, to gain the trust of this fierce lady, you need to help her in finding a book.
She will ask of you to find the Last Scabbard of Akrash in the mission Skilled Apprenticeship. You can find the book at Fort Sungard, by fending off the Forsworn. After marrying our dear Ghorza, she will give you a decent boost in Smithing and access to any Orc Stronghold whenever you return.
#9 Camilla Valerius
If you’re looking for a fair beauty, Camilla Valerius is your choice. However, getting her hand is not that simple, since she already has two other guys who want to marry her. She lives with her brother in Riverwood and works as a pawnbroker. If you want to marry Camilla, you must finish the Golden Claw quest. Then you can ask Camilla to marry you before she marries someone else.
This marriage also comes with a room at Riverwood, which is a lovely bonus. Camilla can also live at your own house, but keep in mind that Faendal will visit her regardless of her location. The man simply will not let her go.
Taarie acts tough on the outside, but after you marry her, she becomes much more caring and gentle. You can find her working as a tailor at Radiant Raiment in Solitude. If you want to marry this exquisite Altmer woman, you must solve the Fit For A Jarl quest.
During this quest, Taarie will invite you to wear one of her clothes in an attempt to encourage Jarl Elisif to order an outfit from her shop. The benefit of marrying her is that you can use the Radiant Raiment as a temporary residence. This will also make you the owner of Radiant Raiment which can earn you a fortune!
#7 Brelyna Maryon
Brelyina Maryon is a powerhouse of a wife, she is a mystic and Winterhold College apprentice. She deals immense magic damage to enemies and she can’t be killed by them. Beginners will immediately fall in love with her reliable strength and support capabilities. She always wears a hood, maybe for a good reason.
So, for Brelyna to become your wife, what do you need to do? The procedure is quite straightforward. To gain her trust, you need to complete the quest “Brelyina’s practice”. You and Brelyna can share her room at the College of Winterhold if she becomes your wife. You can relive your college days, by practically staying in a dorm with your new lover (albeit we doubt that your dorm looked like a medieval dungeon… alas).
Muiri is one of the most beautiful wife choices in Skyrim. She works as an apothecary’s assistant at the Hag’s Cure in Markarth. Muiri isn’t very good at fighting and can only reach level 6. However, marrying her has numerous advantages, as you will be able to buy and sell many remedies in Muiri’s shop.
If you want to focus more on your healing items and keeping a balance in your inventory, she is the perfect wife for you! To marry her, you need to join the Dark Brotherhood and complete the Mourning Never Comes quest.
Jenassa is just a wonderful wife to have. She is a Dunmer mercenary, very exotic if you ask me. You can find her in Whiterun’s Drunken Huntsman. You don’t have to finish any tasks for her to become your follower or wife because she’s a mercenary. For 500 gold she will become your companion on your journey.
It sounds wrong that you can simply buy your wife, but that’s just Jenassa things. Jenassa will also start a shop and give you 100 gold every day, so she will bring a lot of stuff with her. Since Jenassa is a mercenary, she excels at combat, especially in archery. If you are a melee fighter, having her by your side will give you a very balanced combat style while fighting along with your trusty wife.
#4 Mjoll The Lioness
Mjoll is one of those headstrong people with a strong sense of justice and morality. She hates and despises any form of corruption and wrongdoing. She resides in Riften, most commonly at the Bee and Barb Inn.
To marry her, you have to first find her long-lost unique weapon, Grimsever, from the Dwarven ruin of Mzinchaleft. You must be at least level 14 and acquire her trust by agreeing that the Thieves’ Guild is bad or by assisting the people of Riften with various duties for her to offer the quest of finding her weapon. You can marry her once you give her Grimsever. Mjoll is a crazy strong fighter as she mows down her foes with her ominous weapon.
#3 Uthgerd The Unbroken
Uthgerd the Unbroken is one of the best wives out there, hence the we’re ranking her as the third best wife in Skyrim. She resides in the Bannered Mare inn in Whiterun. If you marry Uthgerd, she will be an invaluable resource. However, marrying her will not be through typically gaining her trust.
Surprisingly, you have to defeat her in a brawl to marry her. Trial by combat can get you a wife, who would have known. Don’t take her too lightly though, she will not be easily defeated. Uthgerd is a fantastic character who can both tank and attack foes. Uthgerd has her own home in Whiterun’s Wind District, which is a great bonus if you decide to marry her.
#2 Borgakh The Steel Heart
Borgakh the Steel Heart is the second best wife in Skyrim, and the ideal pick for players that want to get the most out of a marriage, without paying attention to the appearance of their wife. You can find Borgakh in an orc fortress called Mor Khazgur.
Throw away all of the orc stereotypes you might harbor, as Borgakh can melt your heart with her surprisingly deep story. By marrying her, you can live in an orc fortress, how cool is that? You’ll also have access to orc merchants and trainers. Furthermore, you will always be safe and secure while you are there.
So, if you have your heart set on Borgakh, all you have to do now is find a way to enlist her as a follower. You can simply do it by passing a persuasion check during the dialogue with her. After that, the marriage option just pops out. Surprisingly, winning her heart is not a hard job at all.
#1 Aela The Huntress
For good reason, Aela is the most popular, and possibly the best wife in Skyrim. Players choose to marry her because she is strong, dependable, and simply enthralling with her beauty. Let’s be real, who wouldn’t marry a charming huntress/werewolf.
You can find her early on in the game in Whiterun’s Jorrvaskr. By finding her early on, you can build a very long and nurturing relationship with her, as she can reach level 50! You can marry her by completing the Companions questline and becoming a werewolf yourself!
Aela is an expert archer who wields one-handed weapons with a dexterity you’ve never seen before. Not to mention, she can sneak around your enemies without being discovered.
