It might not be Bloodborne, but Dark Souls 3 definitely holds its own. The final installment of the Dark Souls trilogy is filled with thrilling, punishing combat, and difficult bosses. However, the air of mystery that surrounds it is what makes it so addictive. Although there are many worthy features in Dark Souls, we’d like to dedicate this article to something more particular – Dark Souls 3 Hollowing. If you’re interested to know everything there is to know about Dark Souls 3 Hollowing, stick around.
What does Hollowing mean in Dark Souls 3?
Dark Souls 3 Hollowing is basically a statistic. You accumulate DS3 Hollowing when you die while branded with a DS3 Dark Sigil. Furthermore, the amount of Hollowing DS3 equals the Dark Sigil DS3 number in your inventory. As for what it does, we’ll get to that in a bit.
A guide to Dark Souls 3 Hollowing
We’ve covered what Dark Souls 3 Hollowing is. Now, you may be wondering how to become hollow, or is there a way to reverse it. Don’t worry, we’ve covered everything you need to know in this Dark Souls 3 Hollowing tribute. In our little guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about Dark Souls 3 Dark Sigils, how to obtain them, and remove them, as well as everything about Dark Souls 3 Hollowing. Enjoy!
How to become hollow in DS3?
Once you get to 15 or more Dark Souls 3 Hollowing, you become hollow. Keep in mind that you can have a 99 Hollowing maximum.
Being Hollow gives you a more shriveled appearance. However, it’s only visible when you’re naked, or when you’re wearing body-revealing gear. Also, you also receive a bonus to Luck while you’re wielding a Hollow weapon if you’re a Hollow character. It doesn’t have any other effect on your character in Dark Souls 3.
How to obtain Dark Sigils
If you speak to Yoel of Londor, you’ll get a free level five times, in exchange for a Dark Sigil branding every time. The first level up doesn’t require Hollowing, but levels 2, 6, 12, and 15 do. As we’ve already established, you become hollow once the Dark Souls 3 counter reaches 15. Additionally, you can obtain three extra Dark Sigils from Anri of Astora (Yuria of Londor’s questline). Just keep in mind that these don’t give you more levels.
Furthermore, Sigils will appear under Key Items, each one will hollow you for a single point in death. For instance, if you have three Dark Sigils in your inventory, you’ll gain 3 more Hollowing every time you die. After Yoel has given away all five Sigils, he’ll die, and Yuria of Londor shall appear in his place.
How to remove Dark Sigils
Looking for a way to remove or heal the Dark Sigil? Well, after you give the Fire Keeper Soul to the Fire Keeper, she’ll be able to remove the Dark Sigil, thus removing all Dark Souls 3 Hollowing. In turn, this costs you a number of souls equal to your next five levels. They’re not lost, you’re merely paying the cost from levels that were previously free. Consequently, this cancels Yuria’s questline, Londor Pale Shade’s summon signs, and even makes the Londor Pale Shade invade you at certain areas. Should you cure the Dark Sigils this way will make it impossible for you to get Dark Sigils throughout the playthrough. Also, you can forget all about the Usurpation of Fire ending.
Can you reverse hollowing in DS3?
Reversing Dark Souls 3 Hollowing is a tricky question, but it’s no match for us. The good news is that you can reverse the Dark Souls 3 Hollowing counter right back to zero, along with unshriveling your appearance. Wondering how this is done? Well, naturally, by using the Purging Stone.
Purging Stones only reset the Dark Souls 3 Hollowing, but do nothing to the Dark Sigil. So, the Purging Stone won’t tamper with Yuria of Londor’s questline. As for where you can get them, you can buy them off of Yuria of Londor, or you can purchase them from the Shrine Maiden, provided that you give her the Hollow’s Ashes, or even Yuria’s Ashes. You see, you can farm them from Sever Centipedes in the Profaned Capital toxic swamp.
Moreover, there are several other ways to reverse Dark Souls 3 Hollowing. Velka (the statue of Velka) or even the Purging Monument can heal the Dark Souls 3 Hollowing. How? It’s quite simple – you just have to select the Dissolution option, and voila!
What about hollow weapons?
Weapons, or more precisely, Hollow Weapons can be buffed. Hollow Weapons, along with Shields, scale with Luck – they’ll also add a bonus amount of Luck to your stat. But wait, there’s more – they can also grant up to +5 Luck at +10 upgrade level, but only if you’re Hollow. By equipping Hollow weapons in both your hands, the Luck boosts stacks, in turn providing you 10 extra Luck.
Final Thoughts on Dark Souls 3 Hollowing
To sum up, Dark Souls 3 Hollowing is a very powerful statistic in Dark Souls 3, and one that can benefit you greatly. The only thing you might have trouble getting over is the shriveled-up appearance of your character. Nonetheless, Bonus Luck is a very nice touch, so you should definitely keep that in mind. To make things even better, wielding Hollow weapons will boost your stats even further. Overall, we’d say it’s a pretty sweet deal, even if you’re a little shriveled up.
In case you’re worried about removing or reversing Dark Souls 3 Hollowing. Dear Velka (along with a few other NPCs) has a cure for Hollowing. Either way, there’s no lack of options when it comes to removing or reversing Hollowing. So, there you have it! We hope you find whatever it is you were looking for in our guide. Farewell and have fun playing Dark Souls 3!
