Changing Gender in Fortnite Battle Royale: Full Guide
This guide will explain how to change the gender of your character in Fortnite Battle Royale. When you open the game for the first time you may be surprised: you already have a character though you didn’t create it…
Right now this is how the game works. It creates a character automatically every time you log in or leave the battle. You may get either male or female avatar and you can’t reroll the gender in the main lobby.
When I logged in for the first time and saw my female avatar I was surprised a lot. But later on, when I realized that there is no easy way to change the gender I was shocked even more. I started looking for a way to get a male avatar and this is what I have found.
Right now the game is in Early Access and there is no option of changing your gender in the game lobby. But there are several ways to turn your female avatar into male or vice versa:
- Wait until the game generates a new character for you. I don't know how it works. Sometimes I log-in and see a male model, but sometimes a female. It looks like the game randomly generates default character avatars.
- You need to get a new skin (outfit, costume)! All the skins have a gender lock meaning that if you buy a male skin and select it for playing, your character will also be male.
So if you have automatically received a default female avatar there is only one way to change this. You need to get a new male skin.
How to get a new Male or Female Skin?
If you are a beginner and know nothing about the game you may think that the best way of receiving a new skin is purchasing it in Cash Shop. But that’s wrong! It’s a much better decision to buy a Starter Pack, Battle Pass or even a Battle Bundle!
If you visit the store you will see that a separate skin costs about 800 V-Bucks while a Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks. The difference in price is low but with the Battle Pass, you will get much more stuff: several new skins, emotes, XP boost, access to challenges and other cool stuff!
So don’t buy separate skins in the beginning! Battle Pass is a much better choice! You can also buy a Starter Pack. It’s about 60% cheaper than Battle Pass but it gives almost nothing: a skin and some V-Bucks. So my choice is the Battle Pass. I absolutely recommend you to get it.
Why there is no gender selection option?
Many players say that the game is in early access and this is not the #1 required feature. But I think that the reason why Epic gamed don’t include such option is because many players will buy a Starter Pack or a Battle Pass just to change gender. At least, changing a gender becomes one more reason to buy Battle Pass. I personally like to play male characters and I believe many players also like it. So it becomes a source of income for the company. People will pay to change gender. My theory may be right or wrong but that’s how I think.
