Adding to its evil nature is the fact that it is one of the Great Ones left behind by scholars.

The way to the Brain has many enemies which build your Frenzy, making this part of the quest pretty annoying. Next up is making your way to Awaken at the Mensis.

Trivia and Theories regarding the Mother Brain/Brain of Mensis
The Lore and theories regarding the Brain of Mensis are a sea of varying and interesting theories that grant this boss a deeper meaning. We have taken some of the most interesting and popular ones the community has come up with and assembled them here.
One of the theories takes the Latin meaning of Mensis, which means ‘’month’’ and often referred to a woman’s period. With its connection to the Lunar cycle and approximately 28-day reoccurrence. It is quite possible that the naming is tied to the game’s core themes of birth/rebirth and the effects of the moon.
The next theory takes some of the descriptions from the Living String. Especially the part that exclaimed that the Brain of Mensis is extremely rotten, but also that it appears that it was somehow retrieved from the Nightmare itself. Possible from the inhabitants of the School of Mensis.
The last theory can help tie in some parts of the second one, it states that the Brain of Mensis is a collective mind of the scholars from the School of Mensis. The theory states that they may have projected themselves into the Nightmare realm. What actually went down is not known but it is thought that its creation came from a sacrifice ritual that included the entire school which create this monstrosity truly devoid of humanity.
