This guide will explain how to use Dimensional Rift Ultimate Ability of Wraith in APEX Legends for the maximum possible effectiveness. This ability allows the player to link two different locations for 60 seconds with two portals.
Any teammate or enemy can use these portals to change their position instantly by entering the first portal and teleporting out of the exit point.

How to use Wraith’s Dimensional Rift?
After you activate your ultimate ability – Dimensional Rift, Wraith opens the first portal and has about 75 meters’ worth of running distance (measured as ‘rift energy) to open the second one which will be the exit point. This time is enough to place the second portal far from your current location. Especially, if you use Into the Void tactical ability. This is how the portal looks in the game:
You can be killed during this process. Opening the portals does not give you immunity. That’s why this ability isn’t the best thing you can use in midst of a fight. But you can use it before the fight to give your teammates more flexibility. If you die before finishing your ability move, the second portal does not open and your teammates cannot use it.
Likewise, you cannot shoot or interact with other objects after opening the first portal and before placing the second portal, you can only move, so make sure you’re not in a position where you will need your weapons in that short time between opening portals.
The cooldown of Wraith’s Dimensional Rift is 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
Tips and Tricks for using Wraith’s Dimensional Rift
Although Dimensional Rift is a pretty straightforward ability, there are a few things to keep in mind while executing this ultimate.
1. Open the second portal ASAP
An important thing to remember is that if you don’t open the second portal within the timeframe/distance you’ve been given, the second portal will open automatically on your current position. Don’t overthink it and waste your time. If you can, scan for a few seconds in advance to see where you need to place your exit portal before turning on the ability, and make sure it’s in running distance.
However, keep in mind that the rift portal will also not open if you’ve used only 4.72% of your rift energy (aka, you ran only around 3.5 meters). Your ultimate will be restored to 100% in this case, and your initial Dimensional Rift execution will be canceled.
2. Combining Dimensional Rift with Other Abilities
You can use your tactical and ultimate abilities at the same time! That’s very simple: you activate the ultimate, deploy the first portal, start running and activate the Into the Void tactical ability.
When using Into the Void, Wraith gains 30% movement speed and invulnerability for exactly 4 seconds. Although using her ultimate ability doesn’t give her immunity against enemy attacks, combining Wraith’s abilities to work in sync may just do the trick.
If you’re opening portals during a heated moment in midst of a fight, it’s best to open the first portal and immediately sweep into the void until you get away from the gunfire, and then proceed to close the portal in a safe spot where you can hide and assume a superior tactical position even if your enemies come through during combat, as well.
3. Create a Deadly Trap with Your Portals
Apex Legends characters will die if they get squeezed into a tight space. You can use this knowledge to your advantage when you’re playing Wraith.
Open your first portal outside of a building with a door that can be opened and closed. Then make sure you open the door and place the portal into the door gap an inch further on the outside. Once you (and your teammates) enter the building, close the door. Players will teleport right in the midst of the door, which will be a fatal trap.
A more simple alternative is to just create the exit portal over a cliffhanger so your enemies fall to their death. Your choice.
4. Communicate with your Team Before Opening a Portal
Portals, as mentioned, can be used both by your team members and by your enemies. Inevitably, if you’re placing your portal in midst of combat and not as a tactical advantage, rest assured that both sides will try to come through, so make sure the portal’s placement is somewhat “neutral”.
However, if you’re setting up a trap before combat, make sure you let your team know, so you don’t send them off into a deadly door or into a pitfall by accident. Above all else, communication with your team is key in Apex Legends.
5. Use Portals during 1:1 Combat to Ambush your Enemy
During 1:1 combat, a good tactic you can use is to open a portal with you Dimensional Rift ability and quickly open up a second one a short distance away, but far enough so that you’re out of your enemy’s fire range. Give it 2-3 seconds then run back through the portal to the opening. By this time, your enemy has probably gone through the first portal searching for you, and if they don’t find you, they’ll come back through the portals to the entry point.
Blast off an attack at the opening portal, so that the enemy player takes damage as soon as they drift back through the void.
6. Help Injured Team Members with Portals
If you see an injured team member hiding in a corner, it may be risky to run off to heal them as your enemies may see you healing them and finish them off. Instead, use your tactical ability to become invisible, then use Dimensional Rift to open a portal, and continue running to a safe(r) spot.
Your injured team member can crawl through the portal and you can attempt to revive them away from fire range. You can lure your injured teammate behind the portal to give you advantage should an enemy make it through.
7. Close Off Doors with your Portals
While Wraith is in the void, she can’t interact with the portals, either. Open a portal on a door opening and open the exit portal on the same side of the building, then phase through the portal with your tactical ability and wait on the inside. This can come in handy if you need time to heal, communicate, rethink your strategy, or simply slow your enemies down, as you’ll have 60 seconds to pretty much chill safely alone in there.
8. Use Portals to cause Confusion in a Tight Space
If you enter a combat in a dead end, or if you’re running out of space on the map (the ring is closing!) you can open two portals very closely together, then move away from them. Your enemies will run toward the portals and go through them in the heat of the moment thinking you’re probably using the portals to flee, when you’re in fact using portals to draw attention away from yourself and toward an imaginary ‘escape route’. Ambush them from the side. Voila.
