Destiny 2: Wavesplitter Review
Wavesplitter is a new Exotic gun in Destiny 2: Forsaken. This review will tell you everything you need to know about this weapon: how to get it and about how useful it is in PvE and PvP. Remember that this is my personal opinion. Let's start with some basic details before going further.
The first thing I want to mention is this item is PS4 EXCLUSIVE! Unfortunately, Xbox and PC users aren't able to get this weapon. This fact is sad but this is how the business works guys.
How to get a Wavesplitter? You can get this rifle as a random drop from Exotic Engrams and milestones. If you want to get it just continue playing and you will most likely get it sooner or later.
- Fitted Stock: Increase the stability of the weapon but also increases its weight.
- Supercharged Battery: a very interesting perk which grants a hero a short period of maximum power after he collects an Orb of Light. It also reloads the battery.
- Enhanced Battery: gives you more “bullets”.
- Polygonal Rifling: increases stability and decreasing recoil.
- Harmonic laser: Laser damage has 3 power levels that oscillate while the trigger is held down.
The most interesting perk is, of course, the last one: the Harmonic laser. It fires very quickly but the damage output isn’t stable. It oscillates. Sometimes the damage is higher, sometimes it’s lower. As the perk description says the weapon has 3 power levels and your enemy receives different damage with every shot. You may deal 400 damage, then 200 damage, then 300 damage which is very unusual. Some players may not like these mechanics.
But if you get an orb your power goes to the maximum level meaning your damage output will be locked at the highest possible value for a short period of time. This makes the Wavesplitter very good weapon.
I like it a lot because it combines pretty high fire rate and pretty high damage. It’s very strong and it penetrates the armor pretty fast. The other advantage of Wavesplitter is a very high range which allows killing enemies from distance.
The only disadvantage is that you need the Orbs to maintain high damage output. You always have to think about the orbs.
PvP and PvE
In general, this weapon is great against Bosses because it has all the advantages described above. It has high fire rate and high damage combined with high range which allows to stay far from the boss and just fire at him from a safe distance.
Is Wavesplitter good for the PvP? In my opinion, this thing isn’t the best for the PvP encounters. Let me explain. It requires a lot of ammo and Orbs for maintaining the maximum possible damage. You also have to aim at the enemy perfectly while the enemy always moves.
Instead of having a one shot of a shotgun which may kill the enemy instantly you have to do multiple shots with this laser and you have to “hold” the beam on your aim. You have to hold the laser on your target hoping that you have enough ammo to finish it. This gives your enemy some time for resistance.
Killing someone with Wavesplitter requires some time; usually 2 or 3 seconds. The kill isn’t instant. This allows the enemy to fire at you spending special ammo. If you kill the target instantly you are able to pick all this ammo right after this. But if you allow the enemy to fire at you for 2 or 3 seconds you will most likely stay with no loot after you kill him. So there may be ammo related issues.
As you see this thing is very interesting to use. It has unusual firing mechanics and some of you will most likely find it useful. I remember there was a similar gun in Quake 3 and in Unreal games. And players did use this type of weapon.
Let me know what you think about this gun in the comments below. Do you like it? Do you find it useful? What would you like to change in this gun to make it better?
